samskivert: The Evolution of Useful Things – Henry Petroski (N/A)

01 January 2001

At first, the subject matter seemed interesting. The idea of learning about the evolution of the design of everyday artifacts seemed appealing. However, Petroski quickly sucked the wind out of my sails with his wordiness, attention to seemingly uninteresting details and tendency to beat the proverbial dead horse. I made it about one third of the way through the book and decided that my time would be better spent elsewhere.
