Another Pixar homerun. They’re starting to make the Beatles look like a bunch of lightweights. Partly Cloudy, the short screened before the film, was also brilliant and amazing.

Some of the subtle background bits were clever and the idea was a good one, but the execution was pretty weak. Maybe Mike Judge set the bar too high with Office Space but I was expecting better (and I was even warned to have low expectations).
I will admit to enjoying yet another reimagining of an old series, but I won’t admit to enjoying the half-baked time travel plot. I appreciate that it was most likely cooked up to give carte blanche to future writers who wish to be free from the shackles of Star Trek canon. I even appreciate that future films will probably be better for it. I just wish they could have accomplished their goal in a manner less lame.
Not the most gripping of Murakami’s works, but I can’t help but be charmed by his writing style and I did find the biographical elements of interest.
Amazing footage. Amazing fauna. Amazing planet. Definitely worth seeing on the big screen.
